Your answers to common questions about care fees, probate, Wills, Trusts, Inheritance Tax, and later life advice. Face-to-face help in Teesside, remotely elsewhere.
Do I need professional advice, or can I deal with this myself?
In some cases, people can handle matters themselves, and where that is appropriate, I will say so.
However, later‑life legal and financial issues often overlap, and small misunderstandings can lead to unnecessary costs or irreversible outcomes. A short discussion can help clarify whether advice is needed at all, and if so, on what basis.
Is it too early to speak to someone about this?
No. Difficulties usually arise because advice is sought too late rather than too early.
You don’t need to have made any decisions before getting in touch. An initial conversation is simply about understanding your situation and explaining what options may be available.
Will I be under any obligation if I contact you?
No. An initial enquiry is without obligation.
If I believe I can help, I will explain how and on what basis. If professional advice is not required, or if I am not the right person to help, I will say so.
How do your fees work?
Fees depend on the nature and complexity of the work involved and are always explained in advance.
There is no commission involved in legal or planning services, and you will know exactly what you are paying for before any work begins.
What areas do you advise on?
I specialise in later‑life legal and financial planning, including:
- Care fees and funding advice
- Wills and trusts
- Probate and estate administration
- Lasting Powers of Attorney
- Inheritance Tax
- Financial and estate planning in later life
Each area is considered in the context of your wider circumstances, rather than in isolation.
Are you regulated, and what are your qualifications?
Yes. I am a fully regulated Independent Financial Adviser and a Registered Trust & Estate Practitioner.
I have been advising on later‑life financial and legal matters since 1971 and am accredited by the Society of Later Life Advisers (SOLLA).
Do you offer face‑to‑face advice?
Yes. I offer face‑to‑face advice anywhere in or around Teesside, including the surrounding TS postcode areas.
Where appropriate, meetings can take place at your home or another convenient location.
What if I am not based in Teesside?
Advice is also provided to clients elsewhere in England via Zoom or Microsoft Teams.
Remote meetings allow the same careful discussion and explanation as a face‑to‑face meeting, without the need to travel.
What usually happens after an initial enquiry?
Most enquiries begin with a short conversation to understand your circumstances and concerns.
If advice is appropriate, I will explain the next steps clearly so you can decide how – or whether – you wish to proceed.
Who typically gets in touch with you?
Many enquiries come from:
- Individuals planning ahead for later life
- People dealing with care or funding decisions for a family member
- Executors or Attorneys needing guidance
- Families seeking clarity before making important decisions
You do not need to be an expert or have everything worked out before making contact.
